The embassy said the Mozambique-flagged vessel Meda was attacked while sailing in Iranian territorial waters. It confirmed that all 28 Indian crew members aboard the ship are safe and that Indian authorities are maintaining close contact with relevant officials, News.Az reports, citing Anadolu Agency.
In a statement posted on X, the embassy said it is closely monitoring the situation and remains engaged with authorities as developments unfold.

The incident comes as security concerns intensify across the Middle East following the collapse of the US-Iran ceasefire framework announced last month. President Donald Trump declared on July 8 that the ceasefire outlined in the previous US-Iran memorandum of understanding was no longer in effect, triggering a fresh wave of military confrontation.
Since then, Washington and Tehran have exchanged strikes, with the US targeting sites inside Iran and Iranian officials saying they have launched attacks against US military facilities and equipment in multiple countries across the region.
The renewed conflict has heightened risks for commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital maritime corridor for global energy supplies. The growing instability has also led to intermittent airspace closures and increased warnings of potential attacks on US interests beyond the Middle East, raising fresh concerns over the security of international trade and energy markets.

According to Defence24, the victim worked for a Polish defense company but was not a Polish citizen. The ministry confirmed the fatality but did not immediately provide further details about the individual’s identity, News.Az reports, citing RBC-Ukraine.
The death came after Russian forces launched a ballistic missile attack on the Kyiv region on Friday, causing widespread destruction, particularly in the Bucha district.

Ukrainian authorities said 10 people were killed and around 100 others injured in the strike.
Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko said two criminal investigations have been opened following the attack. One concerns alleged war crimes under Article 438 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code, while the second examines possible negligence in the organization and conduct of an event that may have contributed to the loss of life and other serious consequences.
Ukrainian Air Force spokesperson Yurii Ihnat later said the Russian ballistic missile struck a private sports complex in the Kyiv region, dismissing earlier reports that the target had been a Ukrainian military training ground.
The attack is the latest in a series of Russian strikes on Ukraine as the war continues, with civilian infrastructure and populated areas frequently sustaining heavy damage.

The announcement on Friday follows a decision by Venezuela’s National Assembly to repeal the country’s ratification of the Rome Statute, the treaty that established the ICC, News.Az reports, citing Anadolu Agency.
Foreign Minister Felix Plasencia said the government believes the court has demonstrated a “geographic bias” by disproportionately focusing its investigations on African and Latin American nations.

“Venezuela believes that the Court’s actions reflect a demonstrated geographic bias, which has disproportionately focused its work on African and Latin American countries, to the detriment of the Global South,” Plasencia said.
He argued that the pattern shows an international justice system that has been used to deepen inequalities rather than apply justice equally, while undermining the sovereignty and self-determination of nations.
Plasencia also accused the ICC of waging “legal warfare” against the Venezuelan people and serving political interests unrelated to international law.
“We reaffirm our commitment to a genuinely equitable justice system that respects the sovereignty and self-determination of peoples,” he said.
The announcement comes after a Cabinet reshuffle led by acting President Delcy Rodriguez, who appointed Plasencia to head the newly merged Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade. Former Foreign Minister Yvan Gil was reassigned to lead the Ministry of Science and Technology.
Despite Venezuela’s decision to withdraw from the Rome Statute, ICC prosecutors have maintained that the court’s investigation into alleged crimes against humanity in Venezuela—opened in 2021—will continue under its existing jurisdiction.
