Jighaura hosts Lower Kartli Winemakers’ Meeting

A working meeting was held with vineyard-winemakers of Lower Kartli at the Jighaura base of the Agricultural Scientific and Research Center. The meeting aimed to promote the development of vineyard-winery in the region and familiarize farmers with modern agrotechnologies and scientific recommendations.
The Scientific Research Center for Agriculture (SRCA) of Georgia shared glimpses of the meeting on its official Facebook Page on July 18, 2026, Saturday. A small note about the meeting was also shared along with its glimpses.
The Director of the Agricultural Scientific-Research Center, Levan Ujmajuridze, addressed the participants of the meeting and talked about the importance of applying scientific knowledge in practice.
“One of the main priorities of the Agricultural Scientific-Research Center is to make the results of scientific research and modern agrotechnologies available to farmers. That is why, through such meetings, we share with them the knowledge and practical recommendations that are necessary for the proper cultivation of new vineyards, their effective care and obtaining a quality harvest,” Levan Ujmajuridze noted.
Zurab Vacharadze, Deputy Chairman of the National Wine Agency, attended the working meeting. He spoke about the new regulations in the field of viticulture and winemaking and the importance of cooperation between science and the private sector in the development of the sector.
“Viticulture and winemaking are a strategic sector for Georgia. That is why cooperation between science and the private sector is of particular importance, because proper cultivation, maintenance of vineyards and ultimately the production of high-quality Georgian wine are important prerequisites for competitiveness in the local and international markets,” said Zurab Vacharadze.
During the meeting, the scientists-specialists of the center introduced the potential of local varieties of Lower Kartli grapes, the characteristics of vineyard soils, modern approaches to their management, and the principles of integrated vine protection.
Participants visited Jighaura’s collection vineyard, where the genetic resource of Georgian grapes is protected. A tasting of wines made from Georgian grape varieties, characteristic and promising, was also held for Lower Georgian.
