Four persons have been fined in connection with the incident involving removing and desecrating the Israeli flag. Video footage circulating on social media shows a group of people removing Israeli flag from the flagpole near the entrance to the Medical University building on Vazha-Pshavela Avenue in Tbilisi and desecrating it.
The press center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia confirmed to Civil.ge that a case had been opened under the Code of Administrative Violations for desecrating the flag of another state [Article 174, 18 Prima].
The Israeli flag was subsequently returned to its original position on the university flagpole.
The media spread information that the they were Iranian, but the Iranian embassy in Georgia and the MIA have not yet confirmed information about the students’ nationality.
