An explosion on a gas pipeline at Syria’s Tishreen thermal power plant on Wednesday halted gas supplies needed to operate three power plants, according to the country’s electricity company.
Video showed flames and thick smoke at the facility. Reuters verified the location using visual landmarks and satellite and archive imagery.
NASA FIRMS also detected thermal activity at the site.
Two people were injured, according to local media. Syrian Civil Defence said the fire had been brought under control and the site had entered the cooling-down phase.
