There are major delays at the New York area’s three major airports, JFK, LaGuardia and Newark, as well as at the airports in Philadelphia and Boston, a problem that is expected to continue for several hours, Sweden Herald reported.

The problems are worst in Philadelphia and Newark, and planes heading there are being diverted to airports that can accommodate them, NBC News reports.
The delays are also creating further problems for other parts of US air traffic.
A cable that was accidentally destroyed during construction has taken part of the air traffic control system out of service, which has halted parts of the traffic.
“It’s very extensive,” says Bryan Bedford, head of the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), about the work to repair the cable.

The Trump administration approved the deal, one of the largest media mergers in years, in June without demanding a change to its business, before 12 U.S. states sued to block the transaction.
Financing for the deal reportedly includes about $24 billion in equity from the sovereign wealth funds of Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Abu Dhabi. David Ellison’s father, billionaire Oracle founder Larry Ellison, also provided funding and a guarantee.
Opponents in the movie industry said the combined company would slash jobs in a Hollywood already under pressure and reduce the number of films produced every year, while news media groups feared CNN’s independence could be compromised.
The deal includes several safeguards on these issues, including a board meant to protect CNN’s editorial independence.
The news comes just days after Trump banned CNN, Politico and MS NOW from the White House. The outlets are suing the administration to have the decision reversed.
Paramount had threatened to move out of California if the state’s attorney general, Rob Bonta, did not negotiate an end to the lawsuit.
In their complaint, the 12 states argued the combined company would control roughly 27 percent of wide-release theatrical film distribution and a similar percentage of the basic cable channel industry.
California led the suit, joined by Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon and Washington, all Democratic-led.

During routine operations on the Israeli side of the “Yellow Line” in northern Gaza, an unmanned engineering vehicle was hit by a roadside bomb, the army says, The Times of Israel reported.
No injuries were caused in the incident, which the IDF says is a “blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement by the Hamas terror group.”
In response, several Hamas sites used by the terror group to advance attacks on troops and Israeli civilians were struck this evening, the military says.

Zhang Youxia, former vice chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), was stripped of his CCP membership and removed from the army, according to state-run news agency Xinhua on Sept. 21.

Liu Zhenli, a member of the CMC and the military’s former chief of staff, was also expelled from the Party and the military, Xinhua said.
The CMC allows the Party to control the country’s armed forces, the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), and represents one of the highest echelons of power in China. When Chinese leader Xi Jinping unveiled the leadership lineup at the 20th Party Congress in late 2022, two vice chairs and four members sat on the elite body.
Now, only two men remain on the commission: Xi and a general who enforces the political cleansing in the military.
With the fall of the two senior commanders, the current waves of purges have reached a scale unseen since the era of CCP leader Mao Zedong. Over the past three years, more than 100 senior military commanders have been purged, according to a February estimate by the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
The expulsion of Zhang and Liu was approved by the Politburo, an elite council with 21 members, during a meeting on Sept. 21. This month’s gathering is about a week earlier than its usual schedule, and two days ahead of Xi’s state visit to the United States.
Zhang, also a member of the Politburo, was abruptly placed under investigation on Jan. 24 along with Liu. Both men were accused of serious violations of discipline and laws. Beijing said in a brief statement in August that they had been expelled from the CMC.
The Politburo revealed more details on the swift dismissal of two top generals in a statement released on Sept. 21.
Zhang and Liu “seriously violated political discipline and political rules, formed cliques and factions, and were disloyal and dishonest toward the Party,” it said.
CCP authorities also accused them of “exploiting their positions to seek gain for others through postings and promotions” and accepting “large sums of money.”
“An investigation has found that Zhang Youxia and Liu Zhenli betrayed their original aspiration and mission, became disloyal to the Party, lost their Party spirit and principles, and crossed red lines and bottom lines,” the Politburo said.
“The nature of the violations was extremely serious, and the effects have been extremely malign.”
It also said that the cases will be handed to military prosecutors.

The’Dome Fire has been raging for nearly a week in Mariposa County and was reported at 15% containment by Monday.

‘We are devastated by this loss and are struggling to find the words. We ask for privacy and compassion for their families and our team as we grieve this tremendous loss.’
Roughly 580 people are fighting the Dome Fire, which started September 15 near Wawona, California, according to the National Interagency Fire Centre.
It’s burning on about 4.7 square miles and is about 15% contained.
The lake near the crash site was roughly 9 miles south of Yosemite’s iconic El Capitan, and about 7 miles northeast of Wawona.
At least 14 people have died while helping with wildfires in the US this year, the most since 2022 when 25 deaths were recorded, according to government reports.
