The State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG) reported on May 18 that two Georgian citizens who had been illegally detained on May 15 by Russian occupation forces near the village of Tsitelubani in Gori Municipality are now free and in Tbilisi-controlled territory.
“In the process of the release of illegally detained Georgian citizens, all relevant instruments available to the central authorities were actively used, including the ‘hotline’ operated by the European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM) in Georgia,” the SSSG said, adding that it “continues active work to secure the release of all Georgian citizens who are illegally imprisoned in occupied territories.”
In line with recent practice, the agency did not disclose the individuals’ names or release any photos of their release. The statement about their detention also came after their release. The latest statement, however, did specify the place of detention, unlike the previous case in April.
