Georgian prosecutors said they are probing “incitement to suicide” after an employee of the Anti-Corruption Agency of the State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG) was found dead in the town of Khashuri, Eastern Georgia, in “their own car” by a gunshot wound inflicted “from their own firearm.”
“Relevant urgent investigative actions are underway,” the Prosecutor’s Service of Georgia said in its May 23 statement, without specifying the victim’s identity.
In a separate statement, SSSG expressed sorrow and extended condolences over the death of a “distinguished, dignified, and professional employee” of the Anti-Corruption agency, but did not elaborate on details.
It is not the first such report over the course of several months concerning SSSG employees.
In October 2025, a SSSG employee was found dead in Chakvi, the western Adjara region, with authorities suspecting suicide, while media reported the victim had died from a gunshot wound.
Another such report followed in January 2026, when an employee of SSSG’s Anti-Corruption agency was found dead in his car outside the SSSG headquarters in Tbilisi, also with a gunshot wound. The agency said at the time the man had picked up the gun from the office earlier on that day.
