“The EPC forum is very important. It played a crucial role in establishing peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia,” Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan said during his speech at the 8th European Political Community Summit in Yerevan.

Georgia’s annual inflation rate stood at 5.9% in April, while consumer prices increased by 1.7% month-on-month, according to data released by the National Statistics Office (Geostat) on May 4. Prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages rose by 0.5% compared to March.

Annual inflation was mainly driven by price increases in transport (10.3%), followed by miscellaneous goods and services (9%), food and non-alcoholic beverages (7.5%), and housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels (6.5%).

Within the food-related category, the highest annual price increases were recorded for fish (21.3%), fruit and grapes (11.8%), meat (10.1%), vegetables (9.3%), bread and cereals (7.7%), sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and confectionery (7.3%), oils and fats (6.3%), milk, cheese and eggs (4.5%), coffee, tea and cocoa (3.2%), and mineral waters, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices (0.8%).

On a monthly basis, the largest price increases were observed in fruit and grapes (3.7%), vegetables (2.1%), sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and confectionery (2.1%), fish (1.6%), coffee, tea and cocoa (1.2%), meat (0.7%), bread and cereals (0.5%), and oils and fats (0.1%). Meanwhile, prices declined for mineral waters, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices (-2.5%), and milk, cheese, and eggs (-1.5%).

The data comes as the disputed parliament’s commission tasked with studying the pricing structure of food products, medicines, and fuel concluded its three-month work. The commission, established in February, followed calls from Georgian Dream Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, who raised concerns about high consumer prices in late December. Commission chair Shota Berakashvili said elevated prices are primarily linked to “inefficient operational costs” rather than “excessive profits,” calling for “targeted” reforms over what he described as “aggressive interference,” which he warned could create “systemic risks” for the broader economy.
