A ceremony marking the raising of the United Nations flag was held at the Meridian Expo Center in Yerevan ahead of the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17).
The ceremony was attended by Environment Minister Hambardzum Matevosyan, Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity Astrid Schomaker, UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia Françoise Jacob, and representatives of government agencies and international organizations.

The raising of the UN flag marks an important milestone in preparations for the conference, highlighting cooperation between Armenia, as the host country, and the United Nations in advancing the international biodiversity conservation agenda.
Yerevan will host COP17 from October 19 to 30, bringing together delegations from countries around the world, international organizations and civil society representatives to assess progress in biodiversity conservation and discuss further joint action.
