Armenia suffered a dramatic 3-2 defeat to Montenegro in their second UEFA Nations League Group C2 match on Monday, conceding the decisive goal in the final minutes at the Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium in Yerevan.
The Armenian national team had fought back twice after falling behind, but Montenegro found a late winner to take all three points.
Montenegro opened the scoring in the first half, but Armenia quickly responded to restore parity. The hosts continued to push forward and created opportunities to take control of the game.
Montenegro regained the lead before half-time, leaving Armenia facing a 2-1 deficit at the break.
The Armenian side came out with renewed intensity after the interval and were rewarded when Eduard Spertsyan levelled the score, bringing the home crowd back into the game.
With Armenia looking to complete the comeback, the hosts continued to press for a third goal. However, Montenegro struck late, scoring in the closing stages to make it 3-2 and deny Armenia a share of the points.
The result leaves Armenia with three points from their opening two matches in Group C2, following their 2-0 victory over Latvia in the opening round. Montenegro, meanwhile, had also won their first match, beating Cyprus 2-1.
Armenia will now turn their attention to their next Nations League fixture, an away match against Cyprus on October 2.
