California has added Islam’s two major festivals, Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, to its official list of state holidays.
The law does not automatically make either Eid a statewide day off. It allows public schools and community colleges to close through locally negotiated agreements and lets eligible state and school employees use existing leave or personal holiday time to observe the celebrations.
