Eka Mishveladze, an anchor at the opposition-leaning TV Pirveli, is leaving journalism for politics, confirming earlier reports by pro-government media about her departure from the channel.

“We will not give this country to Russia. And I want to take a more active part in this fight…There will be decisive battles, and I want to be a very active participant in that fight…Only through [opposition’s] unity will we be able to defeat this brutal regime,” Mishveladze said on air on TV Pirveli on January 20. She said she has not yet decided which party she will join.

Mishveladze joined TV Pirveli in 2020, where she hosted the late-night political program Public Policy twice a week. Before that, she anchored political talk shows on Georgia’s Public Broadcaster.
