The Russian side positively assesses the joint statement of Armenia and Azerbaijan on their intention to normalize relations and conclude a peace treaty, official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said in a statement.

“Moscow welcomes the Joint Statement of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, confirming the mutual intention to normalize relations and conclude a peace treaty between the two countries,” the diplomat said.

She noted that Moscow is ready to continue to provide all possible assistance in unblocking transport communications, delimiting the border, concluding a peace treaty and contacts through civil society.

“We welcome the agreement between Baku and Yerevan on the release of Armenian and Azerbaijani military personnel,” Zakharova added.

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry recalled that Russia has consistently promoted the idea of exchanging detainees on the principle of “all for all.”

“This contributes to mutual strengthening of trust and opens up new opportunities in promoting the process of Armenian-Azerbaijani normalization in line with the comprehensive trilateral agreements of the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia of 2020-2022,” Zakharova explained.
