The number of people killed in the earthquake in Venezuela has risen to 5,278, according to the country’s National Assembly Speaker Jorge Rodríguez, who shared the update on Telegram, Report informs.
According to the government’s daily update, 16,740 people were injured, and 17,907 were left homeless. A total of 190 buildings were completely destroyed, while 856 structures sustained serious damage.
Rescue operations have saved 6,462 people, while 41,069 received medical assistance. Support has been provided to 128,324 families, with 23,587 people housed in 107 temporary camps. Authorities have also delivered 10,964.97 tons of food to those affected.
The quake struck on the night of June 25 in northern Venezuela with a magnitude of 7.1. The US Geological Survey later reported two additional tremors of 7.2 and 7.5, occurring about 40 seconds apart. The government declared a state of emergency, and since the main shocks, 1,405 aftershocks have been recorded.
