“I expected to see Madam Prosecutor here. After all, the prosecutor was elected by the National Assembly,” Davit Ghazinyan, an MP from the Strong Armenia faction, said in parliament during the debate on the draft 2027 state budget, referring to the absence of Anna Vardapetyan, Prosecutor General of Armenia.
He noted that there could be two reasons for the Prosecutor General’s absence: either the authorities do not intend to nominate her again, or they are confident they will have no problems at the next election.
“Either she was told, ‘You won’t be prosecutor general anymore,’ meaning she doesn’t need to worry about being elected next time, or Civil Contract is confident it won’t have any problems again,” the MP said.
According to Ghazinyan, it is strange when the head of a state body does not take part in the budget debates and does not present the spending of their agency.
