Lithuania and Poland have begun preparing a joint plan for evacuating people across the state border in emergency situations.

According to Report, Polish Minister of the Interior and Administration Marcin Kierwiński announced this at a joint press conference with his Lithuanian counterpart Martynas Katelynas.

“We discussed what needs to be done to identify alternative border crossing points for extreme situations and to organize reception centers for evacuees,” he said.

According to Kierwiński, existing plans need to be coordinated and updated, including geographically and in terms of standardizing border-crossing procedures.

Katelynas said that in an emergency, residents of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia would have the same route toward Europe.

“We will have one corridor left – through Poland,” he said.
