Extreme heat has been observed in several regions of Japan for the fifth consecutive day, with temperatures exceeding 40 C, Report informs, citing NHK.
Saturday marked the longest period since 2011 during which temperatures of 40 C or higher have been recorded.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, temperatures reached 40.8 C in Mino and 40.7 C in Tajimi, both in Gifu Prefecture, while Kuwana in Mie Prefecture recorded 40.6 C.
In Kofu, Yamanashi Prefecture, thermometers showed 40 C, for the first time outside the Tokai region.
Thousands of people have been hospitalized with heatstroke in recent days as a result of the abnormal heat. Warnings have been issued in most prefectures west of the Kanto region.
Authorities are urging residents to stay in air-conditioned places, avoid spending long periods outdoors and drink water regularly. Special attention is recommended for elderly people and children.
