A $13 chicken sandwich in Beirut has sparked a wider debate over the cost of living in Lebanon.
The “Chic Taouk” is a healthier take on the popular shish taouk wrap. However, the Glow Paradise restaurant drew criticism over its price but said it still sold more than 20,000 of the sandwiches in 11 days.
The controversy comes as Lebanon continues to struggle with the fallout from its 2019 financial collapse, with GDP down nearly 40 per cent since then, and four in five households struggling to afford basic necessities, according to the World Bank and UNICEF.
