Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited Abu Dhabi on Sunday, where he met with UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a senior Israeli official told Reuters. The meeting comes amid heightened regional tensions and follows a recent report by Haaretz that Sheikh Mohammed had warned Netanyahu before the 7 October 2023 Hamas attack that a major operation was being planned. Netanyahu has denied the report, while the UAE has declined to comment. Israel and the UAE established diplomatic relations in 2020 under the U.S.-brokered Abraham Accords and have maintained what the UAE describes as “open and direct lines of communication.”
