Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has called for an expansion of the UN Security Council, saying Africa and the Arab world can no longer remain without permanent representation as global power shifts beyond the post-Second World War order. Salam said Lebanon was not calling for the veto to be abolished, but urged restraint in its use in cases involving genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity and serious violations of international humanitarian law.
