Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney says Russian and Belarusian athletes will not be allowed to compete under their national flags at next month’s World Junior Hockey Championship in Alberta while the war in Ukraine continues.
Carney said the athletes would not be permitted to represent their countries in Canada.
His statement follows a ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport ordering Russia’s reinstatement in international hockey competitions, starting with the world junior tournament.
Hockey federations in Sweden, Finland, Czechia and Latvia have also said their teams will refuse to play against Russia.
