Heavy rains have caused widespread flooding in Peru’s northern Tumbes region, affecting around 700 people and inundating 150 homes in the district of Zarumilla, authorities said.
Floodwaters have covered streets, damaged homes and affected agricultural land across several communities. The Peruvian military has joined civil defence teams in the response, using water pumps to clear flooded streets.
President Keiko Fujimori warned that further heavy rainfall was expected in Tumbes and neighbouring Piura on 7-8 November.
