Voter participation in Israel’s election reached its highest mid-afternoon level on record with 44.9% of eligible voters casting ballots by 2 p.m. local time.
The unusually strong turnout had added further uncertainty to a closely watched race, with participation in Arab communities seen as one of the factors that could shape the final balance of power.
It is Israel’s first national election since 7 October 2023.
