U.S. President Donald Trump said Brazil’s presidential election appeared to have been rigged, without providing evidence, after leftist President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva secured re-election. “I didn’t take sides, but it looked like another rigged election,” Trump told reporters on Monday, adding that “It looked very bad”. Lula defeated Flávio Bolsonaro with 51.8% of the vote against 48.2%, according to the reported results. The outcome keeps Brazil, Latin America’s largest economy and most populous country, under leftist leadership and positions it as a counterweight to Washington’s influence in the region.
