French President Emmanuel Macron has described Friday’s shooting in Trappes, west of Paris, as ‘a terrorist and racist attack’ that ‘marks a turning point in the life of our republic and our nation’.
Speaking during a visit to Trappes city hall, he said the victims were targeted solely because of their skin colour or their perceived religion.
The 39-year-old gunman fired an automatic weapon from a car at a petrol station, a medical centre and a children’s playground.
One person was killed, and a 12-year-old girl was among the injured.
