CEC: Georgian Dream Candidates Win All Four Majoritarian Races in Municipal By-Elections

Ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party candidates won all four majoritarian races in Municipal Council (Sakrebulo) by-elections held on October 3, according to the preliminary results of Georgia’s Central Election Commission (CEC).

According to the official preliminary results, GD candidate Vazha Kheladze secured 87.2% of the votes in the 16th majoritarian district race of the Vani municipality in the Western Georgian Imereti region, with 387 people voting for him. His only rival, opposition Lelo/Strong Georgia’s Beka Kobaladze, secured 12.8% of the votes, with 57 people casting ballots in his favor.

In the 9th majoritarian district of the Tsalka municipality of the Southern Georgian Kvemo Kartli region, ruling party candidate Nanuli Khinikadze secured 96,7% of the votes, with 415 people voting for her, according to the CEC. The official results show that only 14 people voted for her rival, Lelo/Strong Georgia’s Zaza Shantadze, who secured 3.3% of the votes.

As for the 13th majoritarian district in Kvemo Kartli’s nearby Dmanisi municipality, the results show that Georgian Dream’s Irakli Sarsevanidze secured 98.5% of the votes, with 131 people voting for him, while Lelo/Strong Georgia’s Vazha Noniashvili secured 1.5%, with two people voting for him.

In the 7th majoritarian district of the Akhmeta municipality in the Eastern Georgian Kakheti region, ruling party candidate Levan Itiuridze secured 100% of the votes, with 115 people voting for him. He was the only candidate.

Only Georgian Dream and Lelo/Strong Georgian candidates registered to contest the October 3 by-elections, as many mainstream opposition parties continue to boycott municipal elections following the fraud allegations of the disputed 2024 parliamentary vote.
