U.S. F-35 makes emergency landing over Iranian fire: media

The incident would be the first time Iran has hit a U.S. warplane since the United States and Israel launched an attack on Iran on Feb. 28, said the report, News.Az reports, citing Reuters.
***
The jet was “flying a combat mission over Iran” when it made the emergency landing, Tim Hawkins, a spokesman for U.S. Central Command, was quoted as saying.
“The aircraft landed safely, and the pilot is in stable condition,” Hawkins said. “This incident is under investigation.”

Cameroon’s Supreme Court orders retrial of jailed separatist leaders

Julius Ayuk Tabe, leader of a separatist movement, and nine of his executives were convicted of charges including “terrorism and secession” in 2019 by a military court and handed down life sentences. An appeals court upheld the judgment a year later, News.az reports, citing Xinhua.
***
Thursday’s judgment by Supreme Court President Marie Louise Abomo ordered a “proper retrial” by the appeals court, according to Akere Muna, one of the lead counsel for the appellants.
Ayuk Tabe was the first self-proclaimed president of “Ambazonia,” a so-called breakaway state declared in 2017 in Cameroon’s two English-speaking regions of Northwest and Southwest.
He was arrested alongside nine others in Nigeria in 2018 and deported to Cameroon to face trial.
Local politicians said the Supreme Court’s ruling on Thursday could usher in a fresh start for reconciliation and peace in the Anglophone regions, where an armed separatist conflict is still in progress.

Bezos in talks to secure $100B for AI manufacturing

The Amazon.com founder is meeting with some of the world’s largest asset managers to raise funding for the project. A few months ago, he traveled to the Middle East to discuss the new fund with sovereign wealth representatives in the region, News.Az reports, citing The Wall Street Journal.
***
More recently, he went to Singapore to raise funding for the effort as well, according to people familiar with the efforts.
The fund, described in investor documents as a “manufacturing transformation vehicle,” is aiming to buy companies in major industrial sectors such as chipmaking, defense and aerospace. It would dwarf the size of some of the world’s largest buyout funds and rival SoftBank’s $100-billion, tech-focused Vision Fund.
Bezos was recently appointed co-CEO of Project Prometheus, a new startup that is building AI models that can understand and simulate the physical world. Bezos plans to use the company’s technology to boost the efficiency and profitability of businesses owned by the fund, a playbook that some investment firms are similarly deploying in sectors such as accounting and property management.
Project Prometheus is separately in talks to raise up to $6 billion in funding, according to people familiar with the matter. It recently appointed David Limp, the CEO of the rocket company Blue Origin, to its board of directors. Bezos founded Blue Origin in 2000 and has contributed billions a year toward the rocket company.
While much of the AI revolution has been focused on large language models, billions of dollars have begun to flow to companies that are seeking to apply spatially focused AI systems toward industries including robotics and manufacturing.

How crucial is Qatar’s Ras Laffan LNG facility?

The Ras Laffan complex, located 80km (50 miles) northeast of the Qatari capital, Doha, is the world’s largest liquified natural gas (LNG) production facility, producing about 20 percent of the world’s LNG supply and playing a major role in balancing Asian and European markets’ demand for the fuel, News.Az reports, citing foreign media.
***
At the start of March, just days into the war, Qatar suspended LNG production following an attack close to the Ras Laffan facility.
Rachel Ziemba, a senior fellow at the Center for a New American Security, said the fact that Ras Laffan had already paused production meant there would be no immediate new global supply shock in the near term as a result of the latest strikes.
Still, earlier today, CEO of state-owned QatarEnergy Saad al-Kaabi said Iran’s attacks damaged facilities that produce 17 percent of the company’s exports, and it will take ‌three to five years to repair them.
QatarEnergy may have to declare force majeure on long-term contracts for up to five years for LNG supplies bound for Italy, Belgium, South Korea and China because of the damage, al-Kaabi said.
The damaged infrastructure cost about $26bn to build, he added.

First-ever Israeli strike on Iranian Navy sites in the Caspian Sea – VIDEO

Among the sites targeted during the strikes was a major Iranian Navy port, at which dozens of ships were destroyed. Prominently among the destroyed vessels were four missile ships equipped with air defenses and anti-submarine missiles, as well as a corvette warship, News.Az reports, citing foreign media.
***
Other significant targets of the strikes located at the port included a central command center for the Iranian Navy, and infrastructure used to repair and maintain Iran’s military vessels.
“Striking this infrastructure deepens the damage to the regime’s capabilities and undermines the Iranian Navy’s control over the maritime space in the Caspian Sea,” the IDF stated.
“We have deprived them of capability for years to come,” a senior Navy officer revealed about the strikes.
