Cargo ship bound for India struck in Strait of Hormuz

India’s ministry of external affairs has said that the Thai ship attacked in the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday was headed to the port of Kandla in western India, News.Az reports, citing Aljazeera.
***
“India deplores the fact that commercial shipping is being made a target of military attacks in the ongoing conflict in West Asia,” the Indian foreign ministry said in a statement. “Precious lives, including of Indian citizens, have already been lost in multiple such attacks in the earlier phase of this conflict and the intensity and lethality of the attacks only seems to be increasing.”

Zyuganov alarmed: We are next after Iran

“Regarding the battle for survival, Iran is fighting now. We will be next. Look at Trump’s strategy: China is in first place, we are second, and Iran is third,” Zyuganov said. According to him, the developments in the Persian Gulf demonstrate that “the masks of American imperialism have been dropped.” He described US policy as “aggression, violence and complete lack of principles,” News.Az reports.
***
Commenting on the military campaign against Iran, Zyuganov said the initial US plan had failed. “The blitzkrieg did not succeed. They expected that everyone would quickly raise their hands and that they would be able to dictate the terms. Nothing is working,” he said.
The Communist Party leader also warned of serious consequences of the war for the region. According to him, the fighting has caused problems with water and food supplies due to damage to desalination plants and infrastructure. “I have been throughout the Persian Gulf. It used to be a zone of prosperity, but now it is a zone of fire and disaster,” Zyuganov said.
The US and Israel’s military operation against Iran began on February 28. President Donald Trump said the aim was to destroy Iran’s nuclear program. As a result of one of Israel’s strikes, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and the military leadership of the Islamic Republic were killed. Tehran responded by launching attacks against Israel and US military bases in Middle Eastern countries including Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar.

FBI warns Iran eyeing drone strike on California

“We recently acquired information that as of early February 2026, Iran allegedly aspired to conduct a surprise attack using unmanned aerial vehicles from an unidentified vessel off the coast of the United State Homeland, specifically against unspecified targets in California, in the event that the US conducted strikes against Iran,” according to the alert distributed at the end of February, News.Az reports, citing foreign media.
***
“We have no additional information on the timing, method, target, or perpetrators of this alleged attack.”
The warning came just as the Trump administration launched its ongoing assault against the Islamic Republic. Iran has been retaliating with drone strikes against targets throughout the Mideast.
A spokeswoman for the FBI office in LA declined to comment.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
U.S. intelligence officials have also grown concerned in recent months about the expanding use of drones by Mexican drug cartels and the chance the technology could be used to attack American forces and personnel near the Mexican border.

“An uncorroborated report suggested that unidentified Mexican cartel leaders had authorized attacks using UAS (drones) carrying explosives against US law enforcement and US military personnel along the US-Mexico border,” according to a September 2025 bulletin reviewed by ABC News. “This type of attack against US personnel or interests inside the United States would be unprecedented but exemplifies a plausible scenario, although (cartels) typically avoid actions that would result in unwanted attention or responses from US authorities.”

ABC News contributor John Cohen, the former head of intelligence for the Department of Homeland Security, said he is concerned about the possibility of drone warfare coming from both the Pacific and Mexico.

“We know Iran has an extensive presence in Mexico and South America, they have relationships, they have the drones and now they have the incentive to conduct attacks,” Cohen said. “The FBI is smart for putting this warning out so that state and locals can be better able to prepare and respond to these types of threats. Information like this is critically important for law enforcement.”

While the FBI’s warning did not specify how or when vessels carrying attack drones could get close enough to the U.S. mainland, intelligence officials have long been concerned about equipment being pre-positioned – either on land or on ships at sea — in the event Israel or the U.S. struck Iran.

IRGC operatives eliminated in Tehran strikes – VIDEO

In addition, the IDF struck several IRGC infrastructure sites in Tehran and other Islamic Regime military strongholds throughout the country, News.Az reports, citing foreign media.

***

Earlier on Wednesday, Israeli fighter jets struck a group of operatives from Iran’s drone array at a launch site in western Iran shortly before they were set to launch drones toward Israel.

The IDF said it had identified “several operatives from the Iranian terror regime drone array at a launch site in Western Iran,” and that the strike took place shortly after the operatives’ entry to the launch site.

The IDF added that it is continuing to operate against missile-related infrastructure in western Iran “in order to reduce, to the extent possible, the scope of missile fire toward Israeli territory.”

Footage circulating on social media shows heavy damage to buildings at the IRGC’s command headquarters in Fardis from joint Israel-US strikes.

$11B jet fuel shock hits U.S. Airlines

However, the turbulence appears far from over, as the biggest airlines are set to spend an extra $11 billion on jet fuel this year due to spiking energy prices amid the ongoing U.S.-Israel-Iran war, News.Az reports, citing foreign media.

***

The figure is based on calculations by the Financial Times after the U.S. lifted its forecast for the average price of jet fuel in 2026 to $2.67 a gallon. The revision marked a 37% jump from estimates given in the previous month.

Shares in the top four carriers, American Airlines AAL -0.63%, Delta Air Lines DAL -0.22% , United Airlines UAL -0.46%, and Southwest Airlines LUV -2.27%, resumed their downward trend during Wednesday’s pre-market trading session. This comes even as oil prices remain elevated, despite plans by the International Energy Agency to recommend that G7 countries release record emergency oil reserves to offset the supply shock.

Fuel Costs, Travel Slump to Impact Airlines’ Financials

Unlike their European counterparts, American airlines abandoned the practice of hedging against the price of jet fuel more than two decades ago. This leaves them vulnerable amid spiking energy prices, especially as fuel costs remain one of carriers’ biggest expenditures.

Already, United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby has provided insight into the impact soaring costs could have on airlines. Kirby has stated that the carrier anticipates a “meaningful” impact on first-quarter results.

With jet fuel costs rising, adding to pressure from forced flight cancellations in the Middle East, more expensive airplane tickets, and an anticipated slump in travel bookings, airline stocks could be facing their most significant pressure since the 43-day shutdown of the U.S. federal government last year.

New Zealand Regulator to Broaden FinTech Sandbox, Develop New “On-Ramp” License

New Zealand Regulator to Broaden FinTech Sandbox, Develop New “On-Ramp” License

Wednesday, 11/03/2026 | 21:08 GMT by
Jared Kirui

  • The restricted license will help innovative firms enter the market under specific, gradually relaxing conditions.
  • New Zealand earlier announced plans to ban crypto ATMs to curb money laundering.

New Zealand’s Financial Markets Authority (FMA) plans to
expand its FinTech sandbox to give more firms controlled access to the market.
The announcement comes as the regulator engages with industry participants at
the FinTech Hui in Wellington this week.

On-Ramp License Under Review

FMA Chief Executive Samantha Barrass said on Thursday that the regulator is
developing an “on-ramp” or restricted license that will help innovative firms
enter the market under defined conditions. “This new type of license will support firms to get access to
the market with some restrictions in place that can be removed as the firm
grows,” Barrass said.

She added that the approach aims to foster competition and
innovation while managing potential risks to consumers. The existing sandbox
pilot involved six firms, four of which have already identified a path to
market for their products.

The latest development signals a more flexible, potentially
faster route into the New Zealand market for brokers and trading platforms, but
with closer, earlier engagement from the FMA and a clear focus on user
protection.

One outcome of the pilot included the FMA’s decision that
Easy Crypto’s non-yielding stablecoin does not qualify as a financial product
under the Financial Markets Conduct Act. The program has helped the regulator
and participants understand how regulation interacts with emerging
technologies.

Samantha Barrass, Source: LinkedIn

The FMA also published feedback from its 2025 tokenization
discussion paper. Respondents said tokenization could expand capital access and
improve liquidity in local markets. However, they also raised concerns about
cyber risks, asset custody, and fraud.

Barrass said the FMA will keep working with policymakers to
update legal and regulatory frameworks to reflect changes across global
markets. The sandbox expansion, she added, signals the regulator’s continuing
role in supporting responsible financial innovation.

Tokenisation Findings Published

The regulator has largely featured as an enforcement-heavy
regulator, from blacklisting offshore FX and crypto firms to cancelling the
licenses of New Zealand brokers that fell short on conduct or governance.

Against that backdrop, the sandbox expansion and on‑ramp
license concept show the FMA trying to move beyond being seen only as an
enforcer toward a more “grey‑zone” problem solver that gives firms a supervised pathway into the
market.

Coupled with is its work on tokenization and crypto‑asset
policy. Last year, New Zealand announced plans to shut down all cryptocurrencyATMs and cap international cash transfers at NZ$5,000 as part of a broader push
against money laundering and organized financial crime.

Altima CTO Sunil Jadhav: Solving Data Fragmentation & Lag for Brokers & Prop Firms

Altima CTO Sunil Jadhav sits down with Finance Magnates to discuss the core technology challenges facing CFD brokers and proprietary trading firms today.

Jadhav explains how the industry’s reliance on batch processing and fragmented systems (where CRMs, risk tools, and trading platforms operate with separate ‘sources of truth’) leads to delayed data and inconsistent operational decisions. He argues that real-time event processing is essential for managing fast-moving trading activity and risk.

Learn how Altima’s unified, event-driven architecture, connecting Altima CRM, Altima Prop, IB systems, and risk management through a single backbone, is designed to provide synchronous data and better operational coordination for modern brokerage and prop firm stacks.

    Key Topics:
    – Broker and Prop Firm Data Challenges
    – The problem of delayed data processing (batch processing vs. real-time events)
    – Fragmented systems and conflicting data sources
    – Altima’s unified, event-driven solution architecture

Shaho explains why many prop firms break once they grow beyond the early stage, after stacking too many disconnected tools. He also shares how Axcera approaches customisation, with technology that fits the firm’s needs rather than forcing the firm to fit a template.

“The firm doesn’t need to adapt to the software, our software adapts to the firm,” Shaho says.

The interview follows Axcera’s recognition at the Finance Magnates Awards 2025, where the company won Best Prop Trading Technology Provider.
