Britney Spears arrested on DUI suspicion

The 44-year-old singer was arrested Wednesday night and booked into custody by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department on suspicion of DUI, several entertainment news outlets said, citing police sources, News.Az reports, citing foreign media.
***
Sheriff records showed Spears had been released at 6:07 AM local time and a court appearance had been set for May 4.
“This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable. Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law,” a representative for Spears said in a statement to entertainment outlet Deadline.
“Hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life.”
Spears had phenomenal early music success with late 1990s hits like “…Baby One More Time” but has largely stepped back from music in recent years.
In her 2023 memoir “The Woman in Me,” Spears insisted she never did hard drugs and that she did not have a drinking problem, but admitted that she was taking Adderall, the ADHD medication.
Following a public breakdown in 2007, Spears was placed under the conservatorship of her father Jamie Spears, who controlled her money and her personal life, even as she continued to perform high-profile concerts.
The conservatorship was dissolved by a Los Angeles court in 2021, after a groundswell of public support to “Free Britney.”

He added that the British government is working with airlines, travel companies and foreign governments to bring back British nationals.
More than 4,000 people have returned to the United Kingdom on commercial flights from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), with seven additional flights scheduled to depart the UAE for Britain on Thursday. Meanwhile, the first charter flight from Oman departed early Thursday afternoon, and more charter flights are expected in the coming days, according to Starmer.

Finland to permit nuclear weapons imports

Häkkänen told a press conference that the country’s legislative ban on nukes, dating back to 1980, was no longer relevant in the current geopolitical context. “The legislation does not meet the needs that Finland has as a NATO member,” Häkkänen said, News.Az reports, citing foreign media.
***
Finland became a NATO member following Moscow’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The country shares more than 1,000 kilometers of border with Russia, and has been accelerating and revamping its defense plans.
Häkkänen said nuclear weapons would be allowed to be transported onto Finnish territory if national defense needs required it, Finnish media reported. The minister declined to provide specific scenarios, but ruled out the possible deployment of nuclear warheads on Finnish soil.Finland is a signatory to the 1968 Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. Within Europe, France and the United Kingdom possess their own nuclear weapons, while the United States stores nuclear warheads in several NATO countries including Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy and Turkey.
French President Emmanuel Macron recently announced plans to increase his country’s nuclear arsenal and to cooperate more closely with European partners, including the potential temporary deployment of French nuclear-capable fighters abroad.
