US reportedly sends six more F-22 fighters to the Middle East

The six F-22s are expected to be deployed at an Israeli Air Force base, where 11 other stealth fighters landed yesterday, News.Az reports, citing The Times of Israel.

According to flight tracking data and analysts, the six F-22s took off from the United States earlier today and linked up with their accompanying refueler planes, and they are en route to the Royal Air Force Lakenheath airbase in England.

Yesterday, 12 F-22s that were stationed at RAF Lakenheath took off for Israel, although one returned to the airbase due to a technical issue. The 11 stealth fighters are now deployed at an IAF base in southern Israel, according to defense officials.

The F-22, operated exclusively by the US Air Force, is the world’s most advanced air-superiority fighter, built for unmatched speed, maneuverability and stealth in air-to-air combat.

The movement of the jets comes as part of the United States’s massive buildup of military forces in the Middle East, as US President Donald Trump considers whether to take military action against Iran.

Dozens of fighter jets — including F-35s, F-22s, F-15s and F-16s — have been spotted heading to the Middle East by the Military Air Tracking Alliance, a team of about 30 open-source analysts that routinely analyzes military and government flight activity in recent days.

The team says it’s also tracked dozens of accompanying fuel tankers, as well as hundreds of cargo flights, heading into the region since mid-February.

Araghchi in Geneva for third round of US nuclear talks

Araghchi and his accompanying delegation arrived in the Swiss city on Wednesday evening ahead of talks with American envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, scheduled for the following day, News.Az reports, citing foreign media.

***

The planned talks, like the previous rounds, are being held indirectly and are mediated by the Sultanate of Oman.

Iran and the US held the last two rounds of nuclear negotiations on February 6 and 17 in Muscat and Geneva, respectively. At the end of the Geneva talks last week, Araghchi said that an understanding had been reached on “a set of guiding principles” for the negotiations and the possible framework of an agreement.

Earlier on Wednesday, before departing Tehran, Araghchi said in an exclusive interview with India Today that “a fair, balanced, and equitable deal is achievable.”

Iran has said that any agreement should include the removal of sanctions against the nation.

Cuba reports killing four on US speedboat

It added that six others on the speedboat were injured, News.Az reports, citing foreign media.

The Cuban commander of the border patrol boat was also wounded, Cuba’s interior ministry said.

The injured were evacuated and are receiving medical attention, it added.

The ministry said the incident is under investigation to clarify exactly what happened.

Florida’s attorney general James Uthmeier said he was ordering prosecutors to open a separate investigation with other state and federal law enforcement partners, saying the Cuban account could not be trusted.
Florida congressman Carlos Gimenez, a Cuban-American former mayor of Miami, demanded an “urgent” investigation into what he called a “massacre”, adding US authorities “must determine whether any of the victims were US citizens or legal residents”.

The speedboat came within one nautical mile of a channel on Falcones Cay, on Cuba‘s north coast, when it was approached by five members of a Cuban patrol unit, Cuba’s interior ministry said.

The crew of the speedboat then opened fire, wounding the commander of the Cuban vessel, the statement added.

None of the dead or wounded on the speedboat were identified, but Cuba said it was registered in Florida and provided the boat’s registration number.

“Faced with the current challenges, Cuba reaffirms its commitment to protecting its territorial waters, based on the principle that national defence is a fundamental pillar for the Cuban state in safeguarding its sovereignty and stability in the region,” the statement said.
