Georgian Dream Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze attended an international forum in Turkmenistan alongside Russian President Vladimir Putin and other regional leaders.

The International Year of Peace and Trust forum, held to mark the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality, aims to strengthen dialogue and cooperation among states.

The forum is attended by the presidents of Turkmenistan, Russia, Turkey, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Iraq, as well as the prime ministers of Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Pakistan.

This marks Kobakhidze’s third official visit to Turkmenistan in 2025. He is accompanied by a Georgian Dream delegation that includes Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili and Head of the Government Administration Levan Zhorzholiani.

Addressing the forum, Russian President Vladimir Putin referred to Turkmenistan’s neutral status, noting that “exactly three decades ago, the United Nations General Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution officially affirming your country’s neutral status.” He also focused on bilateral cooperation between Russia and Turkmenistan, including economic and social ties.

Kobakhidze was present in the hall during the speech.

Kobakhidze, in his address, said the session’s theme closely reflects Georgia’s values and foreign policy priorities.

“Today more than ever, the global community faces complex challenges, ranging from geopolitical tensions and armed conflicts to climate change and economic instability,” Kobakhidze said. “In this context, the principles of peace and trust are not merely ideals, but essential instruments for ensuring global stability.”

Referring to Georgia’s security situation, Kobakhidze said. “Given the ongoing occupation of two of our historical regions, Georgia views peace not only as a political choice, but as an existential priority.”
