Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on Monday (September 22, 2025) that diplomacy remains the only path to resolve the nuclear dispute with the West. Speaking in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, Araqchi warned that if Western powers move forward with “snapback” sanctions, Iran’s cooperation agreement with the IAEA could lose its validity.
Araqchi is expected to meet with European foreign ministers and IAEA chief Rafael Grossi this week. His comments come as Britain, France, and Germany (the E3) launched a process to reinstate U.N. sanctions, accusing Tehran of failing to comply with the 2015 nuclear deal.
The E3 have offered to delay sanctions for up to six months if Iran restores full access for U.N. inspectors and resumes talks with the United States. Without an agreement by September 27, U.N. sanctions will automatically return, further pressuring Iran’s already struggling economy.
