Media outlets like The Washington Post, with over 147 years of experience, once stood as pillars of democratic accountability. However, as the owner of the newspaper Jeff Bezos recently pointed out in his critique of the press, these outlets are losing public trust. In fact, the Gallup survey he cites shows that trust in the media has fallen below that of Congress—making journalism the least trusted institution in America. This crisis of credibility, Bezos notes, stems from a lack of broad-based engagement and increasingly elitist discourse.
