Aram Bekarian named “Exemplary Homenetmen Member” at the 47th Navasartian Games graphicAram Bekarian, a native of Aleppo, Syria, was recently recognized as the “Exemplary Homenetmen Member” at the 47th Navasartian Games. Bekarian’s journey with Homenetmen began in his teenage years and has been a significant part of his life ever since.
Born into a supportive and loving family, Bekarian received his education at Armenian schools in Aleppo. In 1970, he joined the Aleppo chapter of Homenetmen’s Syria region, laying the foundation for his lifelong commitment to the organization.
In 1980, Bekarian moved to the United States, where he continued his involvement with Homenetmen. He married Lena Hagopian, who shared his passion for the organization, and together they raised a family immersed in Armenian culture and values.
Bekarian’s contributions to Homenetmen have been extensive. He served in various roles within the Los Angeles chapter, including as a scouting council member and executive board member. In 2006, he transferred to the Crescenta Valley Shant Chapter, where he helped establish the chapter and continues to make significant contributions to the chapter’s progress.
Bekarian’s commitment transcended local boundaries, as he assumed leadership positions at the regional and central levels of Homenetmen. His influence was pivotal in establishing the Hrashq Division, dedicated to supporting teenagers and young people with special needs. Today, the Hrashq Division thrives, boasting hundreds of participants and volunteers engaged in a myriad of events and activities throughout the year.
In 2019, Bekarian was awarded the prestigious “Homenetmen Service Award” medal in recognition of his dedication and sacrifices for the organization. He views Homenetmen as a school of life that has given him courage and a sense of community.
Bekarian’s wish is for younger generations to continue preserving Armenian language and identity. His legacy serves as an inspiration for future generations to uphold the values of Homenetmen and community activism.
Together, Aram and Lena have raised two children, Kevork and Sossi, instilling in them a sense of national consciousness and patriotic spirit through their involvement in Homenetmen. Over the years, the family has grown, as Sossi found companionship with Christapor Matti, and Kevork with Tiffany Minasyan, bringing joy to their parents with the arrival of grandchildren.
Congratulations to Aram Bekarian on being named the “Exemplary Homenetmen Member.” His lifelong commitment to Homenetmen and the Armenian community is truly commendable.
