South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has accused Israel of committing war crimes against the Palestinian people in an emergency meeting of the BRICS countries on Tuesday. Ramaphosa said that Israel’s airstrikes on Gaza, which killed more than 14400 civilians were a “flagrant violation of international law and human rights”.

Ramaphosa called on the BRICS countries to use their collective influence and voice to urge Israel to stop its aggression and respect the rights of the Palestinians. He also expressed his support for the efforts of the United Nations and other mediators to broker a ceasefire and resume the peace process.
