Varush Markar Nishan Amerazian was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Born on November 15, 1940, in Kirkuk, Iraq, he was the youngest son of Markar and Tamar Amerazian and had two older brothers, Azad and Vrej. He was the last surviving brother until he left us on Thursday, June 6, 2024, reuniting with his family in heaven and leaving a profound void in our lives, but also a legacy that will endure.
Varush displayed a remarkable aptitude for learning and had a strong work ethic. He pursued a degree in Mechanical Engineering at Baghdad University, where he made lifelong friendships. After earning his degree, he served in the military as Second Lieutenant in the engineering department. He had a passion for soccer as both a player and later a coach for a youth team, which showcased his multifaceted talents and drive.
At a young age, he entered the ranks of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF). His lifelong involvement in the ARF was a testament to his loyalty, to his heritage and his unwavering commitment to the Armenian cause. Additionally, he served in Homenetmen Kirkuk, further involved in his community as his sense of duty and loyalty was a cornerstone of his character.
On September 18, 1969, he married Margarit Mirzaian, beginning their lifelong journey together. In 1970, they were blessed with their first-born daughter, Siza, followed by their second daughter, Seta, in 1971. In search of a better future amidst the turmoil of the Iran-Iraq war, the family left Iraq in 1980, leaving their home and families, and embarking on a new chapter in America. They eventually made their way to Los Angeles, where they were blessed with their third daughter, Sonia, in 1981.
Varush built a successful career as an engineer at Fluor Engineering, where he worked diligently for several years. Throughout his life, Varush was a pillar of strength and support. Varush was a smart man, he was exceptional with words. He loved Western movies and closely followed politics. He loved reading newspapers, whether the LA Times or Asbarez. Most of all, Varush loved reading and writing Armenian poetry, often reciting verses from memory with eloquence and pride. A few of his favorite poets were the famous Hovhannes Shiraz and Baruyr Sevag. His humor was infectious, and his jokes could light up any room, bringing joy to all who knew him. Overall, his greatest joy came from his family, and his newest joy was his granddaughter Lara, who brought light back into his life.
Varush was a loving and caring individual who touched the lives of many with his kindness and sense of urgency. His legacy will live on through his family, with the wisdom he shared, the poems he recited, the laughter he brought, and the love he gave unconditionally. His lifelong contributions to the Armenian community, his family, and all who knew him will never be forgotten.
May your memory be eternal, and may we find comfort in knowing that your spirit will always be with us, guiding and watching over us. You will be deeply missed, but your legacy of love, dedication, and unwavering commitment will forever remain in our hearts.
Memorial Services were held on Thursday, June 20, at Saint Mary’s Armenian Apostolic Church, followed by burial services at Forest Lawn in Glendale.

And all Amerazian, Markarian, Shahinian, Jivaligian, Malakian, Bedrosian, Mirzaian, Mirzoian families, relatives and friends.
