International Pressure Increasing on ICC to Investigate Israel War Crimes in Gaza

Listen to this article

The International Criminal Court (ICC) is facing mounting international pressure to launch an investigation into alleged war crimes and genocide in the Gaza Strip by the Israeli regime. The ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestinians in the region has raised concerns about potential violations of international law.

Israel’s collective punishment has resulted into the killing of more than 10,000 civilians with majority of whom are children. Israel also used phosphorus and other chemical weapons which is a violation of international law.

In the name of self-defense, massive killing is not permissible, and no law allows these war crimes.

Critics have accused the ICC and its mandate of keeping silent on these war crimes while making a comparison that if these crimes happen in any other country ICC must take early action.

Reports of indiscriminate shelling, destruction of infrastructure, and allegations of targeted attacks on non-combatants have prompted international actors to call for a comprehensive investigation by the ICC.

A coalition of international human rights organizations has called on the ICC’s prosecutor to initiate an investigation into the situation in Gaza.
