“A Major Mistake”: Regulator Chief on Closure of Shoghakat TV
Tigran Hakobyan, head of Armenia’s Commission on Television & Radio, described the termination of broadcasting by the Church-affiliated Shoghakat TV channel as a major mistake.
Commenting on the situation to journalists, the regulator’s chief noted that three of the country’s eight nationwide broadcasting slots are currently vacant, with one becoming available following Shoghakat’s closure.
The channel ceased broadcasting on January 1, 2026, by government decision amid tensions between the authorities and the Church.
