Democrat Abdul El-Sayed celebrated his victory in Michigan’s U.S. Senate race by telling supporters in Detroit that he could finally turn “Inshallah”, meaning “God willing”, into “Alhamdulillah”, meaning “praise be to God”. El-Sayed defeated Republican Mike Rogers and will become the first Muslim to serve in the U.S. Senate.
