Italy and Spain have agreed to end border controls on each other’s citizens after a three-month dispute over migrant arrivals in Ceuta. Italy suspended Schengen arrangements with Spain on 31 July, citing concerns over migrant movements.
Madrid responded with similar measures, calling Rome’s decision discriminatory and contrary to EU interests. Both countries agreed not to extend the suspension and to strengthen information-sharing to improve security across the Schengen area.
