French authorities imposed overnight curfews in several cities on Monday night following a weekend of riots and looting during nationwide protests over the rising cost of living.
In Paris, a curfew ran from 11pm to 6am around Place de la République and Les Halles, while Lyon introduced a 9pm-to-6am curfew in part of its city centre. Nice and four areas in the north, including Lille, imposed curfews for minors.
