A 20-year-old endangered orangutan has been rescued from a fire-ravaged forest in Indonesia’s Central Kalimantan province after residents spotted the animal near a plantation.
Rescue teams safely lowered the orangutan from a tree and transported it for medical checks before relocating it to safety.
The rescue comes as devastating wildfires continue to destroy habitats across Indonesia, with nearly 900,000 hectares of land reportedly burned this year, threatening wildlife and exposing animals to hazardous smoke conditions.
