US Senator Lindsey Graham’s bill proposing new sanctions against Russia is at risk of collapse due to disagreements between US President Donald Trump’s administration and Democrats in Congress, Report informs, citing The New York Times.
According to the newspaper, the dispute centers on a clause that would allow the US President to impose or lift tariffs of up to 100% at his discretion on countries purchasing Russian energy resources.
Democratic lawmakers oppose granting the president such broad powers in trade.
The New York Times added that as the Trump administration continues its winding campaign on tariffs, leading Democrats have taken a firm stance against giving the president broader trade authority.
