Eight people were injured in a gas explosion near the entrance to a metro station in Barcelona, Spain, which sparked a large-scale fire, Report informs.
The incident occurred yesterday evening at the L5 metro station on Plaça de Sants, which is currently under construction, according to the Medical Emergency System (SEM), local media noted.
All of the injured are construction workers and have been transported to hospitals, with two reported to be in serious condition.
In response to the emergency, the SEM dispatched eight ambulances to the scene.
According to the Barcelona City Council, the explosion was caused by a gas leak after a pipe was damaged during work in an underground passage. As a precautionary measure, traffic has been suspended and the area cordoned off.
