FM Darchiashvili Attends Informal Meeting in Luxembourg amid EU Discussions on Georgia

On June 25, Ilia Darchiashvili, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia attended an informal meeting in Luxembourg, which a day earlier also hosted the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting.

The informal meeting was hosted by Xavier Bettel, the Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, and was attended by Foreign Ministers from EU member, partner, and candidate countries.

According to the official press release of the Georgian Foreign Ministry, during the event Minister Darchiashvili provided an update on Georgia’s European integration agenda and “the progress in implementing recommendations”.

The Foreign Ministers also had an audience with Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg.

The day before this meeting, on June 24, the EU Foreign Affairs Council met in Luxembourg. One of the agenda items of the Council meeting was the EU response to the situation in Georgia. HR/VP Josep Borrell presented the ministers with an options paper on how the EU could respond to Georgia’s adoption of the foreign agents law and more generally to its recent anti-Western course. At the press conference following the Foreign Affairs Council meeting Borrell said the foreign ministers of the EU members states believe that the Georgian government is taking the country away from the EU. He also said the EU will downgrade the political contacts with the Georgian government,
