Illegally Detained Georgian Citizen Released from Tskhinvali Custody

A Georgian citizen illegally detained on December 23 near Zadiaantkari village of Kaspi municipality, Shida Kartli region, has been released from custody, the State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG) reported on February 20. The released person is currently in the Tbilisi-controlled territory.

Per the latest trend, the agency no longer discloses detainees’ identities or publishes photos of their release, and reports on such cases only after the individuals are freed. Neither did the SSSG specify who carried out the illegal detention.

In a report also released on February 20, RES, a media agency run by the de facto authorities of Russia-occupied Tskhinvali/South Ossetia region, cited local security services that they “expelled” Teimuraz Zadishvili, a Georgian citizen. According to RES, Zadishvili, born in 1992, was detained “on December 23, 2025, for illegally crossing the State Border of South Ossetia.”
