Nurlan Libre refuses to attend court hearing

Journalist Nurlan Libre (Gahramanli), who was arrested in connection with the “Meydan TV case,” has said that he will refuse to attend the court hearing scheduled for February 6.
Relatives of the journalist informed Meydan TV about this.
Libre stated that the reason for his decision is that he appealed to the Prosecutor’s Office regarding violence he experienced at a previous court hearing and did not receive a positive response.
In response to the inquiry about the alleged violence, the Prosecutor’s Office said that no unlawful actions had been identified.
On December 22, during a court hearing held as part of the “Meydan TV case,” Libre cut his arms in protest against what he described as unlawful arrests. Officers of the Penitentiary Service handcuffed his arms behind his back and forcibly took him to a correctional facility. After that, Nurlan Libre was held in solitary confinement for two days.
At a court hearing on January 16, journalist Nurlan Libre announced that he had begun a hunger strike. He is still continuing the hunger strike.
Nurlan Libre was arrested on February 21, 2025, in connection with a criminal case linked to Meydan TV.
He was charged under Article 206.3.2 of the Criminal Code (smuggling committed by a group of persons acting in prior conspiracy), and a measure of pretrial detention was chosen against him by court order. His detention period was later extended.
A total of 12 people are currently in detention in this case.
On August 28, 2025, the charges in the “Meydan TV case” were aggravated and seven additional articles were added.
Journalists arrested in connection with the “Meydan TV case” do not consider themselves guilty and say they are being punished for their critical journalistic activities.
