Irakli Kobakidze, the Prime Minister recently visited, “Trinity Cathedral”. He visited there to pay tribute to those breve man of army and civil who lost their lives to protect honour of country.
This was as commemorative event observed as civil Funeral for Displaced Individuals from Abkhazia. The Prime Minister while taking to his social media handles shared glimpses of his visit also.
On official Facebook post PM stated, at a solemn and emotional ceremony held at the Trinity Cathedral, I have also attended the civil funeral of individuals. They were those who displaced from the occupied Abkhazia region during the armed conflicts of the 1990s.
It is worth to note that ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials and government representatives as well. These includes President Mikheil Kavelashvili, Speaker of the Parliament Shalva Papuashvili, and various members of the executive and legislative authorities of Georgia as well.
Prime Minister while sharing his views on the visit said, Together, we extended our heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved one. We are always with them in their grief and honouring the memory of those lost.
As per information the total of six identified individuals were laid to rest, whereas five of whom were military personnel and one a civilian. Their remains were recovered through the collaborative efforts of the Minister of State for Reconciliation and Civil Equality and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
Notably every year such ceremonial events are held. This ceremony also served as a powerful reminder of the enduring impact of the conflict in Abkhazia and the importance of remembering those who lost their lives.
The event also highlighted efforts to address the humanitarian consequences of war, reaffirming the commitment to justice, reconciliation, and support for affected families.
The attendee of event also expressed their gratitude for government representatives for this noble gesture as well. As per them such commemorative events are need of hour as nation pays tribute to its heroes and continues to seek pathways toward healing and reconciliation.
