Georgia: The Minister of Internally Displaced Persons, Labor, Health, and Social Welfare Mikheil Sarveladze met with children who had defeated cancer diseases, recovered, and already returned to their homeland. It is to be noted that February 15 is International Childhood Cancer Day.
It is to be recorded that every year on February 15, the world joins forces to celebrate International Childhood Cancer Day (ICCD), a global collaborative movement that aims to increase awareness of childhood cancer and show support for children and adolescents who have the disease, their survivors, and their families.
The Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons, Labor, Health, and Social Welfare shared glimpses of their meeting on its official Facebook page on February 15, 2025, Saturday.
During the meeting, Mikheil Sarjveladze heard from the parents of the patients about their experiences and how they ended the treatment. They also talked about medical examinations and controls, which the children will continue to go through while receiving treatment abroad.
The Minister of Health stated that the recovery of every child is a huge victory for everyone and that the state will do its best going forward.
It is noteworthy that the program of treatment abroad for children with oncological diagnoses has been launched since August 2023. The treatment package includes a course of diagnosis and standard treatment: chemotherapy, radiation therapy, surgical intervention, and proton therapy.
Eight clinics provide services to patients as part of the program:
- Kiron Salud Protonotherapy Center,
- Tel-Aviv Souraski (Ikhilov) Medical Center in Israel,
- Anadolu Medical Center,
- Ajibadem Hospital,
- Memorial Hospital,
- Medikana International Clinic,
- MC Hospital,
- Medipol Mega University Hospital.
In addition to Georgia, the state provides full funding for all recipients’ care at partner clinics in Israel, Spain, and Turkey. Since the program began, 160 beneficiaries have participated. The treatment has already been finished by 101 people.
Other Participants of the meeting were:
- Khatuna Chachava, the head of the “Georgian Solidarity Foundation,“
- Ketevan Kartozia, the representative of the foundation.
