Armenian community expects its rights to be preserved in Syria’s new constitution — Zarmig Boghikian

Zarmig Boghikian, editor of Aleppo’s Kantsasar weekly, told Alpha News about the situation of the Armenian community in Syria.

“There is no shortage of fuel or food at the moment. The Syrian market has everything, but there is unemployment as a result of which people’s financial capabilities have been reduced. It causes a lot of challenges because it is hard to survive in a difficult financial situation and to maintain the schools of the community. The main problem is economic. Undoubtedly, the Armenian community expects the restoration of its rights in the new constitution of Syria,” she emphasized.

She noted that there had been no airstrikes in Syrian cities recently, although the media reported that the situation on the Syrian-Lebanese border was unstable.

“Order should be restored. There are very few police officers in the city. This is what we’re concerned about. I believe this issue will be solved in the coming days. We hope that order will be restored and the economy will gradually get back on track, taking into account the investments of Arab countries, the lifting of sanctions, etc. Some media outlets write that Israel sometimes launches strikes on the Syrian-Lebanese border, but there have been no attacks in cities over the past 2-3 days,” Boghikian concluded.
